Top 10 Things to do This Week (Apr 23-29)

Ed Kowalczyk (of LIVE) - I Alone
TAB l $68 from ApeSnap
Apr 25, 8pm
The noise surrounding frontman Ed Kowalczyk’s exit from highly respected rock band Live still looms with viciousness till today. It has been 4 years since, but the weight of summons, off-stage bickering and contractual disputes are inevitably brought up whenever Kowalczyk dons his solo artist suit. But that didn’t stop the singer-songwriter, known for his Christian roots and unique vocal prowess, to release his debut album Alive in 2010 receiving mixed reviews.
This week features: Ed Kowalczyk, Star Slinger, Groove Armada, Paul Valstein, Mount Kimbie, My Disco, Avenged Sevenfold, Jerls, Poptart, Cheating Sons, I Am David Sparkle, A Town In Fear, UNVISUAL, Black Diamond Folds, Vermillion and Bear Culture.

Little Fish
Nov 21, 7pm at Timbre @ The Arts House
Nov 22-23, 8pm at Timbre @ The Substation
Nov 24, 7pm at Timbre @ Old School
The Oxford rockers are anything but little. Frontwoman Juju Sophie has been compared to the likes of Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, the band’s organ player Ben Walker is a trained musician, and Little Fish has grown a massive community back home. The deeply rooted band has total disregard for musical rules, doing only what matters to them. Their DIY spirit has seen them leave a label that founded them, and gone on to play alongside Supergrass, Alice in Chains and Placebo. With appearances in Glastonbury, BBC Radio 1, and even on the video game Rock Band 3, Little Fish plays in a really big ocean.

Above & Beyond
Zouk l $38 includes two drinks
Oct 25, 10pm
The number of times I caught Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness “live”, I am pretty sure they should have gotten their hands on a Singapore permanent residency by now. For those who haven’t (or can’t get enough,) the trio lands on the grand dame once again, this time for a Deepavali eve special. Fresh off the release of their second studio album Group Therapy, catch the trance DJ-producers drop blazing charters like “Sun & Moon”, “You Got to Go” and “Sun in Your Eyes” on top their other dancefloor anthems. It looks like this is going to be a riot with A&B and trance fans expected to populate the club to the brim.
