Zirca & Chivas Regal Presents Grandmaster Flash
Zirca l $16-30 includes two drinks
Apr 20, 9.30pm
The legendary turntablist, born Joseph Saddler, has ingrained most of his founding techniques on today’s DJs. From the backspin to perfecting the scratching, the master’s style is a performance in its own. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and also the Grammys’ Hall of Fame for Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five single “The Message” this year, the master still garners respect till today.
Top 10 Things to do This Week (Jan 9-15)

Skream & Benga
Zirca l $20/32 includes two drinks
Jan 13, 10pm
At a time when dubstep wasn’t Skrillex and a oh-Steve-Aoki’s-in-it-too, its stamp on the music industry was lesser-known in the late 90s under the footprint of UK bass. Skream and Benga were at the heart of that sound when it came about, going from dark to melodic and funk to jazzy. With both forming part of the trio Magnetic Man, being pigeonholed into the current mainstream craze of dubstep was inevitable. In the same vein, a mix of underground to mainstream crossover tunes and educational classics will set the sound levels for this night. Audio-visual collective Syndicate’s Kiat opens the night together with Brandon Tay on VJ duties.
Top 10 Things to do This Week (Dec 12-18)

Parkway Drive
*Scape Warehouse l Pre-sale: $35; At-the-door: $45
Dec 14, 7pm
The last time Aussie band Parkway Drive came to Singapore, the gig was a sold-out riot. Many local fans have dubbed that hardcore gig as one of the best since. And come this Wednesday, the five-piece takes to *Scape Warehouse to make sure that their critical-acclaim remains affix in the minds of many. Local bands After The Sky and Ruins & Remains open.
Top 10 Things to do This Week (Nov 21-27)

Little Fish
Nov 21, 7pm at Timbre @ The Arts House
Nov 22-23, 8pm at Timbre @ The Substation
Nov 24, 7pm at Timbre @ Old School
The Oxford rockers are anything but little. Frontwoman Juju Sophie has been compared to the likes of Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, the band’s organ player Ben Walker is a trained musician, and Little Fish has grown a massive community back home. The deeply rooted band has total disregard for musical rules, doing only what matters to them. Their DIY spirit has seen them leave a label that founded them, and gone on to play alongside Supergrass, Alice in Chains and Placebo. With appearances in Glastonbury, BBC Radio 1, and even on the video game Rock Band 3, Little Fish plays in a really big ocean.
Top 10 Things to do This Week (Oct 24-30)

Above & Beyond
Zouk l $38 includes two drinks
Oct 25, 10pm
The number of times I caught Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness “live”, I am pretty sure they should have gotten their hands on a Singapore permanent residency by now. For those who haven’t (or can’t get enough,) the trio lands on the grand dame once again, this time for a Deepavali eve special. Fresh off the release of their second studio album Group Therapy, catch the trance DJ-producers drop blazing charters like “Sun & Moon”, “You Got to Go” and “Sun in Your Eyes” on top their other dancefloor anthems. It looks like this is going to be a riot with A&B and trance fans expected to populate the club to the brim.

[PICK OF THE WEEK] STAY feat. Le Castle Vania
Avalon l Advance (Ticketbooth): $15, At the door: $25
Oct 12, 10pm
Born Dylan Eiland, the Atlanta-based DJ and producer’s moniker Le Castle Vania sounds like it was taken off a bad Dracula film. Perhaps explaining where he got his Euro-electro influence from, the mosh-pit’s favorite son sucks on the blood of disco punk and spits out electro bangers on the floor. URB labelled him as the Next 100 in 2008; three years on and he is still up there on the mark. Indie disco queen Ginette Chittick opens.
Top 10 Things to Do This Week (Oct 3-9)

Alice Cooper - No More Mr Nice Guy Tour
The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa l $120 from Sistic
Oct 5, 7pm
Tell your dad that you’re a big fan of Alice Cooper and he might just bury all the shit you’ve done under the carpet and offer you a fatherly nod of approval (and subsequently the “don’t-tell-mom look.”)
The iconic shock rocker has been at it for more than 4 decades now (the same as your dad), bringing his theatrical brand of heavy metal to the world over. Carry on dad’s legacy in the head banging department as you catch the inductee in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame blare out tunes from a selection of 25 studio albums including his recent release Welcome 2 My Nightmare. Australian rock chick Orinathi opens the concert.
