Top 10 Things to do This Week (Nov 7-13)

Obey Radio: Singapore
The Pigeon Hole l Cover: Pay what you want
Nov 8, 8pm

Every week over at The Crosby, California, the boys from OBEY put on a show where underground DJs, street artists and creative lovers come and party. Following in the same vein (even the poster is identical to the ones in Cali,) audio-visual collective Syndicate have gathered some of the most forward-thinking local musicians today. Headlining the party, Los Angeles native Roam Intl from OBEY Records will be helming the decks. Joining him are local stalwarts Funk Bast*rd from Cosa Nostra, Kiat and Izaak Stern from Syndicate and rapper Kevin Lester from Sixx. OBEY’s Shepard Fairey’s art showcase will also be launched on the night and will run till Nov 22.

STAY feat. Moonlight Matters
Avalon l $25
Nov 9, 10pm

Belgian Sebastiaan Vandevoorde aka Moonlight Matters’ disco-pop laden remixes have changed the mood on all sorts of tracks. From Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” to the ever-indie Ellie Goulding’s “Lights,” Moonlight Matters have added his own boogie flair on all of it. He even reworked tracks by Britrock outfit Keane and American band, The Drums –making it all sorts of 80s with his signature synth and electronic kicks. Expect some disco balls twirling in your pants. Local disco queen Ginette Chittick opens the night.

[PICK OF THE WEEK] Friday Fellowship feat. Flux + Mayer Hawthorne
The White Rabbit l Free
Nov 11, 9pm

Mayer Hawthorne has a lot of soul for a white guy. Counting Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson as his fans, Mayer’s “throwback” soundscape and that delightful vocal of his has captured the music world by its dancing feet. His DJ set won’t fall anything short of carefully selected tunes from the singer-songwriter of which I expect him to work the mic (of course, after much demand.)

Also, keep an eye out for local artist Mriz Sidah’s The Flux show, turning the joint into an interesting art studio with art installations, art jamming, silk-screening and, well, beer pong. DJ Tyler Made warms up the night with his selection of hip hop, house and electro.

Rebecca & Fiona
Zouk l $25/32 includes two drinks
Nov 11, 10pm

Deemed to be one of the biggest pop-dance acts coming out of Sweden, Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick are not just two beautiful ladies. They’ve held out their own with a local tour together with Robyn, performed for the Swedish King at the Polar Music Prize, hosted their self-titled television show, and recently released their critically-acclaimed single, “Bullets” produced by Adrian Lux. However, I still think they are two beautiful girls riding on some Ace of Base vibes on current wavelength.

Steve Bug, Mr C & Secret Cinema
Avalon l Advance: $20 from TicketBooth; At the door: $30
Nov 11, 10pm

So Avalon decided to outdo themselves once again with three top-notch DJs covering generations of music from late 80s house, acid from the early noughties, and current techno and minimal soundscapes. German native DJ-producer Steve Bug, Londoner Mr C, and Dutch techno producer Secret Cinema will all take to the decks one after the other in a spectrum of electronic dance music.

Phonique
Velvet Underground –Dance, Zouk l $25/32 includes two drinks
Nov 11, 10pm

Heading to Singapore for the first time ever, the Berlin based Michael Vater aka Phonique will be bringing his own brand of eclectic selections over to the spanking new Velvet Underground –Dance. His DJ sets are out of the ordinary, as Phonique is known for re-editing tracks and marrying it seamlessly with a carefully thought out play. His musical allure has garnered the likes of Jazzanova, Sven Vath and Steve Bug to work on their releases.

BOOTLEG 001 Allen & Heath Xone Takeover
Undisclosed Location l RSVP at rsvp@bootlg.com with your first and last name
Nov 12, 9pm

Here’s something new. The mysterious organizers of this dance party set at an unknown location (to be announced a day before the event,) have put together a rather interesting and educational series of nights called BOOTLEG.

In their inaugural series, they’ve invited DJ gear brand Allen & Heath Xone DJs for the party. The DJ brand founder and designer, Andy Rigby Jones aka DJ MSP will be headlining the night. Joining him on the top bill is American techno DJ Mix Architekt –a Xone DJ specialist himself. Philippine born Boykulisap, Malaysian Thomer Surria and local DJ Pollux#13 will add their own musical weight to what looks like a fresh conceptual idea for Singapore’s dance music landscape.

Bart B More
Zouk l $25/32 includes two drinks
Nov 12, 10pm

Trust the Dutchman to fill floors with his staple style of big room house tunes cutting through electro beeps and bleeps. Already on the headline lists of many festivals and club nights around the globe, Bart B More’s sugar-laced housey beats and effects driven noise have got punters to rain their sweat on each other. High energy, no holds barred club night is assured.

FLATLINE PRODUCTIONS Presents: Sophie Sugar & Arctic Moon
Azzura Beach Club l $25-35 includes one drink
Nov 12, 10pm

Londoner DJ-producer Sophie Sugar (named the First Lady of trance) and up and coming Polish producer Thomas Popielarski aka Arctic Moon is all geared to bring their brand of trance to the beach of Azzura. Both signed on Armin van Buuren’s Armada label, the night kicks off with the gentler uplifting pastures of Sophie’s trance selection and climaxing to the hard-hitters of Arctic Moon who have been seen remixing for the likes of Dash Berlin and Oceania.

Pantha Du Prince “Live”
Velvet Underground –Dance, Zouk l $25/32 includes two drinks
Nov 12, 10pm

Winding through the deeper elements of techno, the German DJ-producer Pantha Du Prince is creating buzz with his distinctive poignant creations. He is a rare storyteller, not just one to drop two tracks and mix it together, Pantha rather take his audience onto a musical journey. Velvet Underground –Dance, will be the setting for that trip, and his debuting “live” set will be nothing but one to remember for the open-minded.
