5 Must Hear Releases

Something For The Weekend
Ben Westbeech
Strictly Rhythm

Jamiroquai loses his hats, James Blunt gets promiscuous and Adam Levine pop shots and go funky is probably the best way to describe UK singer, songwriter and DJ Ben Westbeech. Taken off his forthcoming album There’s More To Life Than This, “Something For The Weekend” is an ideal housey number to kick start, well, your weekend. Released from Defected’s sub-label Strictly Rhythm, the album was produced by the likes of Motor City Drum Ensemble, Redlight, Georg Levin, Chocolate Puma, Midland, Soul Clap and Henrik Schwarz.

American Goldwing
Blitzen Trapper
Sub Pop Records

Having earned rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, SPIN and top publications, Portland’s country rock band Blitzen Trapper is trailblazing the charts. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Eric Earley, the band’s sixth studio album is an amalgamation of their decade worth of music experience, heavy guitar riffs and mesmerizing hooks, and Eric’s impeccable storytelling.

Eyes
Kaskade Featuring Mindy Gledhill
Ultra Records

The progressive house number opens with Californian native Mindy Gledhill gentle and haunting vocals and builds up towards a uniquely Kaskade euphoric drop. Out on Beatport, this surefire floor-filling tune is definitely one for that uplifting dancefloor moment.

The Quest Of A Dream
Dark Matters feat. Ana Criado
Armada Music

No one knows who the Dark Matters are but they are gaining huge buzz for their debut album Fallen Feathers out earlier this month. Their stripped down vocal releases feature the likes of Jess Morgan, Cathy Burton, Carol Lee and the irrepressible haunting vocals of Ana Criado as heard here on “The Quest Of A Dream”. Have a taste of Dark Matters’ album here at Beatport.

Lionheart
Bury Tomorrow
Artery Recordings

Portsmouth metal/screamo band Bury Tomorrow released their music video Lion Heart recently. The track, taken from their upcoming album The Union of Crowns, has been making its rounds. Daniel P Carter from BBC Radio 1 Rock Show has even invited them for his Maida Vale session on Sep 23. Look for their album release in early 2012.
