Top 10 Things to do This Week (Oct 24-30)

Above & Beyond
Zouk l $38 includes two drinks
Oct 25, 10pm
The number of times I caught Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness “live”, I am pretty sure they should have gotten their hands on a Singapore permanent residency by now. For those who haven’t (or can’t get enough,) the trio lands on the grand dame once again, this time for a Deepavali eve special. Fresh off the release of their second studio album Group Therapy, catch the trance DJ-producers drop blazing charters like “Sun & Moon”, “You Got to Go” and “Sun in Your Eyes” on top their other dancefloor anthems. It looks like this is going to be a riot with A&B and trance fans expected to populate the club to the brim.

Mavens of Midnight

[The New Paper] These are the ladies who rule their individual clubs with a firm hand. Nothing gets past them – from VIP guest lists to what liquor table three is drinking – and nothing gets passed without their approval. They hold the fort in the marketing and public relations department of most clubs and essentially, they make sure a club is hot.
Featuring Daryl Diana Teo from Lo & Behold Group, Dolores Tay from Ku De Ta, Eevon Cheng form Royal Room and MINK, QH Yeo from Home Club, Wai Mun from Zirca and Yanie Awsom from Wave House. The story also includes Audrey Choy from Avalon, Celeste Chong from The Butter Factory, Emi Matsushima from Zouk and Tracy Phillips from Present Purpose.

Review: Killer Elite

[inSing] Firearms that seem to not run out of ammo, fireworks from explosions, foul language and fiery sex: These are the parts of a sum that makes any film watchable. But is it worth watching? That’s another question altogether.
Killer Elite’s main appeal lies is one simple fact: Seeing Jason Statham and Clive Owen beat the crap out of each other. Robert De Niro is in there to provide balance to the story and to prove that his grey hair can still take all that red blood splatter. But as the credit rolls, the only thing that the all-star trio is left with is a bruised fist on one hand and an overtly messy script on the other.
Director Roland Emmerich gives 10 reasons why he believes Shakespeare was a fraud. His film, Anonymous (trailer below) is a political thriller advancing the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare’s plays; set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her.
Mix: SBTRKT BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

When Londoner Aaron Jerome dons them African native-inspired masks, he transforms into DJ-producer SBTRKT. In a self-preferential state of anonymity, Jerome’s masked crusader rides along the current state of post-dubstep and sits on the parapet of sound with recent favorites Jamie Woon and James Blake. Though he doesn’t sing, his production qualities have gotten along well with vocalists like Sampha and Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano as heard on his recently released self-titled debut album.
So it was about time that he got his 2-hour shot on BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix since his tunes have already been going around on heavy rotation in other stations like BBC Radio 6. Mixing up his own tunes and an unreleased track “Runaway,” SBTRKT also included songs from Tinie Tempah, Radiohead, Flying Lotus and even Masters At Work. This is a whirlwind trip into the depths of the current wave of electronic music.
